Whether you enjoy the slopes regularly or you’ve never been on a Crested Butte ski vacation before, it’s a good idea to make a list well in advance of the day you actually have to pack. Then you can revisit the list a few times to make additions and changes, so that on packing day you’ll be sure you’ll include everything you need to make your Crested Butte ski vacation worry and trouble-free.
Especially if you’re coming from a much warmer climate, the cold temperatures of Crested Butte might surprise you. Of course you know that you must dress warmly, but hours spend outside on snowy slopes can be colder than you might imagine. You’ll need to dress, no just warmly, but in several layers, if you hope to stay warm enough to enjoy your Crested Butte ski vacation without being run indoors by the chill.
You’ll need three layers of clothing while out in the elements in Crested Butte, just to be on the safe side. Long underwear is going to be a necessity, and then you’ll need a layer above that designed for extra warmth. What kind of layer you wear here depends on whether you’re cold- or hot-natured, how low the temperatures are on a particular day, and how active you are without outdoor sports and activities. Then your top layer needs to be generally protective, waterproof is best, and something that can keep cold wind from getting through to the lower layers.
You’ll need mittens or gloves and socks designed to keep hands and feet warm and some sort of headwear designed to keep you warm. And don’t forget to protect your eyes, skin and lips while you’re on your Crested Butte ski vacation. Sunglasses with UV protection don’t just protect your eyes, they’re necessary for better sight in all that white snow, which can becoming blinding on sunny days. Lip balm will keep your lips from getting cold- or wind-chapped, and sunscreen is necessary anytime you’re outdoors for very long. Add insulated, waterproof boots and you’ll be ready to enjoy your Crested Butte ski vacation to the fullest.
